Greetings
to friends old and new as we gear up for another spring / summer season
of producing 100% Nebraska award winning wines!! We are still in a state
of disbelief over our incredibly successful harvest of 2003.…
record breaking, nerve wracking, and ultimately fulfilling. JAV crushed
over 170 tons of grapes harvest from our vineyards, as well as from
the fields of our contracted growers. With that bounty, we introduced
some new wines!! Our Free Run Edelweiss--a variation of our widely popular
Edelweiss wine. The Free Run version is made entirely from the juice
of the grapes before mechanical pressure is used during the pressing
process. That first juice is thought to be the finest--as it has not
had the skins and seeds pressed along with the juice. The Free Run Edelweiss
is like biting into a Granny Smith apple--with all the succulent tanginess
of a crisp Granny Smith.
Also,
from the 2003 harvest comes our White St. Croix which is finessed from
our St. Croix grapes. The St. Croix grapes are usually used to produce
our hearty, heavily oaked dry red. With the White St. Croix the skins
are discarded to the compost pile, so a lusciously pink semi-dry rose’
wine is made. It has been a hit in the tasting room, so our hope is
that you agree it is a welcome addition to the JAV award winning wine
list.
In
our calendar of events, you’ll find some new exciting functions
at the winery. We’ve introduced a monthly cabaret--featuring some
of the areas best singing talent. We’ve added a cooking class
and a barrel tasting class, to our already popular wine appreciation
and food and wine pairing courses. Of course, we haven’t forgot
about our tried and true events, such as the 7th Annual Renaissance
Festival on May 22, and live music every Saturday in June and July just
to name a few. Make sure to check the calendar as some of the events
are quickly filling.
