The Barn
It's
not every day you look out your window to see a 100-year-old barn
slowly passing by your window. Not around here anyway. Yet on a beautiful
spring day in 2001 many local people of Nemaha County Nebraska saw
just that!
Although
some began rapidly blinking worrying that their cold medicine dosage
was too high, many others stood ready on the road with cameras, cheers
and smiles. This Barn Moving Day is in their list of extraordinary
memories.
How
does something like this happen? Let's see…
There
is Bob Curttright, owner of Whiskey Run Creek, who was looking for
the perfect atmosphere for wine tasting and gatherings that make any
occasion special just by being there.
Then
there is Julius Bergmann, owner of a beautiful barn far too historically
valuable to be demolished.
A
storyteller might add a third party - "the hand of God"-
and include a moral to the story; maybe "Retirement is a myth,
for both Curttright and the Barn." Whatever providence brought
about, we know that it is you that will benefit.
Read
the Barn Facts and view the Gallery, a pictorial of the barn's moving
and spanning the creek. You'll discover the storyteller got it right.
It couldn't have ended in a more perfect match.
